Ausflug nach Kassel

This is very late story too 🙂

Three of us and mom went to Kassel on a sunny Sunday in May.  Kassel is located in Hesse, another state in Germany (Hannover is located in Lower Saxony). We went there because there is a famous park which were proclaimed as world heritage site by UNESCO. Its name is Bergpark Wilhemshöhe.

As Kassel is located in the north part of Hesse, the journey with regional train from Hannover doesn’t take too long. We went at around 10 o’clock in the morning and arrived safely in the location at 14.00. From Hannover main station we took Metronom to Göttingen. There we changed to Cantus to go to Kassel main station. In Kassel we changed again to regional tram in direction Kassel-Wilhemshöhe train station. Then we took tram number 3 to Druseltal and finally climbed the hill with bus no. 22 to reach Hercules Monument. We bought Schones Wochende Ticket for only 48€ for 3 people. With this ticket we can go everywhere in Germany riding regional train all day long. The actual information about the ticket you can find in Deutsche Bahn website here.

According to official website of Kassel and Wikipedia, Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe comprises an area of about 2,4 square kilometres. The Hercules monument is the highest area in the park then down to English landscape garden with water features running down hill and a castle called Schloss Wilhemshöhe. When we came, the Hercules monument and the fountain were under construction. It is written that the construction would be until 2017 or 2018. Beside those three places there are also other nice locations in the park. For example Roseinsel and Löwenburg.

I saw in Youtube (keyword: wasserspiele Kassel) how the fountain play. It is beautiful. It plays only on schedule, which are from 1 May to 3 October every Wednesday, Sunday and free day in Hesse from 14.30 until 16.00.

Actually, if you go without stroller and you feel that you fit enough, you can go from Hercules monument along the water cascade down to the castle on foot. It is not dangerous because it has more than 200 steps 🙂 We didn’t do it of course 😀 We took bus. From the bus/tram stop to the castle was quite tiring because we climbed the hill.

The entrance fee to the park is free. But if you want to see the octagon below the Hercules statue or the castle, I think we need to buy ticket.

Here are our pictures:

Don’t forget to see above the hill, while you are riding with the tram up or down the hill. It’s totally nice.

I think we should come here to see the Wasserspiele 🙂
